Promotional Visits

Throughout the year gliding squadron staff attempt to visit as many individual cadet squadrons, contingents and flights as possible to promote the various gliding opportunities available within the Air Cadet Organisation. Each Promotional Visit is typically attended by a Qualified Gliding Instructor, a Senior Flight Staff Cadet and the Wing or CCF Gliding Liaison Officer. The aim of each visit is to encourage prospective trainees to take full advantage of the gliding opportunities available to them while at the same time educating them about the requirements and content of each course.

Each visit typically lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour and is usually customised as requested by the Commanding Officer of the Squadron, i.e. to focus on Gliding Scholarship Courses or the Gliding Induction Course. However, regardless of the focus of the visit the following topics are usually covered during the session:

1. A Short Presentation on Available Courses (Gliding Induction, Gliding Scholarship and Advanced Glider Training)
2. A Demonstration of the Gliding Scholarship Syllabus (shown through the 'Horizons Unlimited' film)
3. A Discussion on the Age, Medical and Parental Consent requirements for each stage of Glider Training
4. Details of the Flight Staff Cadet opportunities and requirements for those interested in applying
5. A question and answer session for both cadets and squadron staff
